We invite you to learn about Lakewood Congregational Church, a member
of the United Church of Christ, a Protestant denomination rich in
heritage and vibrant in its extravagant welcome to all people. We are
the “God Is Still Speaking” Church which celebrates the traditions of
the past while not imprisoning God within ancient creeds. We use
Scriptures as the foundation of our faith and also seek to discern how
God is still speaking today. We are a church of great diversity of
thought with an even greater unity in purpose: to share the Good News of
God’s love for all people and to be a transforming ministry in our
community and the world.
For over 100 years LCC has been a vital community of faith.
Through ministries of outreach, education, music, and fellowship we seek
to meet the needs of members and strangers alike, sharing Jesus’ love
and grace for all. We reach out and support various community-based
programs and have an active ministry to alleviate hunger and meet the
needs of the homeless.
In our educational ministry we provide meaningful and exciting
opportunities for people of all ages. Our rotational model for our
children’s education hour allows the children to learn the stories of
faith in new and creative ways. The LCC youth are active in our
community: leading worship at a nursing home and sponsoring a Homeless
Awareness Sleepout each January. They raise funds to spend a week in
mission at various US locations. Our adult education programming offers
a diverse selection of topics and themes to inform and guide.
The Ministry of Music has always been a vital part of our
church’s life. We enjoy excellence and variety in the music of worship,
from the great classics of our ecclesiastical heritage to the Caribbean
Mass and jazz. We seek to provide music that lifts the spirit and
creates hope.
At the heart of any church is the fellowship found in shared
experiences and shared vision. In worship, we gather as a family of
faith, open and affirming to all who come. In activities that take place
outside of worship we deepen our friendships and support for each other.
The two statements that best describe who we are as a people of faith
are:
Our Mission Statement proclaims our common goal.
We strive to be a welcoming, worshipping community of faith, helping
people discover and deepen their relationship with God, growing as
disciples of Christ, and reaching out in faith and loving service.
In keeping with the spirit of our Mission Statement,
Lakewood Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, is an Open
and Affirming congregation. We welcome people of all sexual orientation,
ages, differing abilities, and ethnic, economic, and racial backgrounds
into the full life and ministry of our church. We declare this in the
name of the Still Speaking God, whose Son, Jesus Christ, welcomed all
people into God’s circle of grace.
If you are seeking a community of faith that celebrates the
ability to both feel and think, a community of faith that wants to
include and not exclude, a community of faith that worships the God of
hope and transformation, then you have found your home with us!
Welcome All!
