What is it? Mission 4/1 Earth is about boldly living Jesus' let your light shine proclamation in the Sermon on the Mount: "That they may see your good works!" It is an opportunity to live out our faith - in unity, as one church - for the sake of our fragile planet Earth.
It begins on Easter Sunday, April 2, and continues through the 50 days of Eastertide. The congregations of the United Church of Christ, along with campuses, seminaries, camps and outdoor ministries, along with healthy and human services agencies will join together in a shared mission campaign to:
- Collectively provide one million hours of engaged earth care, including clean up, advocacy, education and behavioral changes that will impact the environment.
- Collectively plant more than 100,000 trees locally and globally in partnership with the National Arbor Day Foundation and the UCC's denominational partners around the world.
- Collectively write and send more than 100,000 letters on environmental concerns to elected officials and local and national news outlets.
Mission 4/1 Earth links together four significant events: Easter, Earth Day (April 22) , Arbor Day (April 26), and Pentecost (May 19) - for a sustained, aggressive, and collective mission opportunity for the entire UCC.
We have packets of information in the sanctuary. Please visit the UCC website information on Mission Earth at http://www.ucc.org/earth/about.html to find wonderful information on this exciting new project. |

When Lakewood Congregational Church turned 100 years old in 2005, we decided to install a Centennial Garden. Since then, members (and non-members) of the church have purchased personal paver bricks to be placed in our garden to celebrate, commemorate, or honor a loved one/scripture/special date. Please, take a stroll around our Centennial Garden, next to the West Clifton door and consider a brick you would like to add to it. The engraved 4x8 brick is $50, an 8x8 brick $100. Click here for the order form. If you have any questions, see Patti Komperda. Orders will be taken through April 15th, 2013. |

What better way to bring in Spring than by sprucing up our West Clifton Gallery wall with the smiling faces of our wonderful congregation. The Creative Arts Team is underway with a wonderful project and we need your help. On Sunday, April 7th and April 14th, Sean Swatsky has graciously donated his talents and skills to photograph our LCC members before and after church.
Sign up sheets in the main hallway will be available for you to sign up for times prior (9-10) or following the service (11 - noon). Your individual session should only take 5 minutes. Once the photos are taken we will be getting some mats that everyone will be able to decorate with their names prior to hanging. This wall will creatively showcase the wonderful people from our church and be a reminder to get to know the people whose names we may not know as well. Sean's website: SeanSwatsky.com |

At a leadership retreat in 2011, three components of our ministry were given priority. In order to move forward inaddressing the needs of these ministries of Outreach, Facilities and Creative Arts committees and assure the future financial strength of LCC, the Executive Team invites congregation members to be a part of a Visioning Team. If you are interested in participating on this team, please contact Executive Team Chair Julie Warren at
